User Experience Applications, Is There A Need?

Published: Jul 19, 2007 - 10:10pm | Permalink | Comments (2)

In a recent discussion with a few co-workers, I found myself thinking about User Experience, and if it would benefit to have an online application to store User Experience models and other UE information. I found myself wondering about the process and how other professionals tackle the task. Recently, during day one at AEA Seattle, Andy Budd spoke about User Experience and even gave us a glimpse of his process, including some pictures of his office covered in post-it's. You would think that someone would have come up with a web app solution for it by now...

If you Google "User Experience Applications " there are no gleaming stars among the results. Even the amazing 37signals hasn't released such an application.

The more I think about it, is there a reason such an online application has not been created? Is this topic just too broad to create an application around? Or is it that everyone's process of creating models is so vastly different that it would be near impossible to please a majority of the field?

What do you think? Would an online application such as this be helpful to you? Could an application help with client buy in? Or do you simply want to stick with your current methods?

You might check out information architecture tools such as Free Mind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) and Inspiration (http://www.inspiration.com/).

I dunno about web-based apps, but have you played with Omnigraffle? See your MacHD\Applications
